As Design Director of Images & Illuminations, Cheryl Hanna oversees every project executed by our studio. Her eye for detail is notorious and her standards are high. Hanna's design philosophy is to approach each project with dedication and commitment, rigorously clarifying concepts before attempting solutions.
After attending Pratt Institute, Hanna worked for as a freelance art director, designer and illustrator, focusing in trade and educational publishing for a wide variety of publishers and design studios. In this arena she honed her production skills and ability to manage large projects, juggling the needs of designer, production staff, editorial personnel and publishers. Her experience also includes exhibition and publication design work at various museums including The Children's Museum of Detroit and the Brooklyn Museum. A fine artist and a curator herself, exhibiting nationally, she brings a special sensitivity and perception to the needs of fine arts institutions.
Hanna is also a writer with a new book under contract at Clarion Books. She has illustrated seven children's books including the award winning, An Enchanted Hair Tale.
Geoffrey Jacques Editorial Director
Geoffrey Jacques has many years of experience in writing and editing for the arts in numerous periodicals and journals, including: Cineaste, NKA Journal of Contemporary African Art, Artforum, New York Newsday, Publishers Weekly, and The Village Voice. He has written for art exhibition catalogues published in Europe and in the United States. Formerly the managing editor of New Labor Forum, he holds a Ph.D in English from The Graduate Center of the City University of New York (CUNY).
Jacques brings a wide knowledge and understanding of many artistic disciplines to Images & Illuminations projects. He has an exceptionally clear and focused prose. His ability to direct other writers is exceptional and his pure love of the world of art shines through every word he writes.
Dr. Lindamichelle Baron
Coauthor of the bestselling, student centered writing program for grades 1-5, The Write Direction, published by Pearson Learning and Modern Curriculum, Dr. Lindamichelle Baron is also the founder of Harlin Jacque Publications, a poet, educator, former teacher and master educator. Currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Education at York College, City University of New York and a Visiting Professor at Cambridge University and formerly at St. John's University, she also lectures and performs extensively in the schools nationwide.
Dr. Baron received her doctorate in Special Education from New York University. She brings a special combination of creativity combined with a through awareness of today's demanding educational standards to Images & Illuminations, overseeing and conceptualizing all of our educational textbook projects. Her own books include: The Sun Is On (listed as a recommended book for New York State middle schools); Rhythm & Dues: Poetry & Idea Book; For the Love of Life; and Anthony Ant and Grady Grasshopper.
